Like the anechoic chamber, the reverberant room is unique because it can simulate a well-defined acoustic field. Due to the nature of the diffuse sound field in a reverberant room, it is possible to perform a variety of acoustical measurements. Parameters such as sound absorption, sound insulation and sound power can be measured and evaluated in such rooms. In opposition to the anechoic room, all surfaces in the reverberant room are strongly reflective and thus the sound is equally distributed - the average energy density is the same at any position throughout the room.
